Now that we are with COVID-19, and the stay at home time increased and my job got less. I use the spare time for studying. Learning is fun. The world is filled with unknown things, Japanese common sense could be unable to apply to other countries, and something I take it for granted might be unacceptable for others. On the other hand, our subconscious is connected firmly as universal truth somewhere deep down, at the bottom of our mental ocean.
コロナになって、家にいる時間が増え、仕事は極端に減り、その余った時間を勉強に充てている。勉強は楽しい。世界は未知で溢れていて、日本の常識は外国では非常識ともなり、自分にとっての当たり前は他者にとっての当たり前ではなく、自分と人は本当に違うのだと思い知ったり。その一方で、人々の潜在意識は地中深い海の底のような場所では、一つの塊のように揺るぎない真理として存在していたりする。
When you dig down your inner world deeper and deeper, it could be so ugly and sticky entangled with narcissism and egoism, or other time it could be possible to achieve higher self. When you are agonized with relations, you might read a book of psychology. Christians will read the Bible and Buddhists will read the sutras and cleanse your heart and soul. Same thing is true to other religions. The act is handed down from generation to generation throughout the human history.
自身の内面を掘り下げて行くような考察の仕方は、時として自意識と自己愛にまみれた醜いドロドロの様を呈することもあれば、人間の心の在り方について、精神の高みを目指す一段高い場所へと到達することも出来る。人間関係の難しさに悩んだ時に、心理学の本を手にしたり、キリスト教徒ならば聖書を、仏教徒ならば仏典を読み心を整理整頓して浄化させることは、人類がその歴史を通して連綿と続けてきた営みでもある。
When you feel extroverted and not introverted, things you study will differ. I’m a linguist and I study languages as a daily habit. Currently, I’m focusing on Bahasa Melayu and Bahasa Indonesia, and some years ago I was so into Korean, and learned German and French from time to time.
自分の内側ではなく、外側に意識が向いている時は、学ぶ事柄も違ってくる。私は言葉を使う仕事をしているので、当然の事ながら語学の勉強は毎日の日課だ。今はマレー語とインドネシア語を集中してやっているが、数年前までは韓国語にはまり、ドイツ語とフランス語もちょろちょろ齧ったりしていた。
The biggest joy of learning languages is directly connected with the pleasure of knowing the culture, subculture, society, and history of the target country. When you encounter with a good friend from abroad and you come to know the background culture of him/her, the delight is incomparable.
日本語を含めた言語を勉強する醍醐味は、その言葉を使う国の文化、風俗、社会、歴史を知りゆく楽しみに直結する。外国人と友となり、その人を通してみるお国柄考察は、何事にも比べられない楽しみに満ちている。
Therefore, deepening your knowledge by reading books and magazines of world affairs and cultural affairs makes you rich as if traveling abroad. Especially we are unable now, so longing for foreign countries and cultures is stronger than ever. The earnest passion could be the ultimate spice. Or I’m saying too much?
そう言う訳で、世界各国事情についての本や雑誌を読んで学びを深めるのは、海外旅行に出かけるみたいに心が豊かになる。特に旅行が出来ない今は、海外への憧れが募りゆく、渇望感が至上のスパイスになり得るまたとない好機と言えば言い過ぎだろうか。
I think it’s the best to read newspaper every day to follow the world issues on live, it’s better than reading internet articles. It’s good to follow SNS like Twitter to read a single article, however if you want to understand the world dynamism and the social trends as a whole, I believe subscribing “paper” newspaper is the very best.
世界情勢の生の動きを知るには、ネット記事よりも新聞で日々追いかけるのが一番だ。単発の記事なら、Twitterなどを追うのもいいが、世界の動きと自国の動きを連動させて、一つの流れとして理解するのは、紙の新聞で定期購読するのが一番だと私は思っている。
I didn’t study at graduate school nor study abroad nor belong to university. Where I’m standing is different from academia. Even though, I established my own way of studying and have fun learning every day. And I ask myself. Why I study? How come I love learning so much? Probably the answer is that I’m in love with creating Worldwide Intellectual Map all by myself. You will never know how I’m fond of the process of filling in the world manual, the world climate map form my own angle.
私は大学院へ行っていないし、留学もしておらず、大学にも属していないので、いわゆる学術とは違う場所に居る。けれど、自分の流儀でする学びの方法を確立させていて、毎日楽しく学んでいる。そして考えてみた。どうして学ぶのだろう。勉強が好きなのは何故だろう、と。きっとその答えは、自分自身で世界大の知の地図を創り上げる作業を愛して止まないからだ、と。世界の見取り図、天気図を、自分なりの角度から完成させてゆくこの愉しさよ。
Taking a good look at beautiful arts and crafts with your own eyes, eating delicious foods from all over the world, seeing passionate lives of creators, feeling colors of music which can’t be seen. You receive various inspirations from them, then design and create something with your own hands. And all the procedures are a part of making your one and only Worldwide Intellectual Map.
心に触れるような芸術や工芸をこの目で見て、世界各国の美味しい料理を食べて、モノを創り出す人々の真剣でひたむきな生き様を見て、目では見えない音楽の調べに彩りを感じて。そうして得た様々な着想を元に、自分で図案して練り上げたものを実際に手を動かして形にしてゆく。そしてこれら全てが、世界大の知の地図に組み込まれてゆくのだ。
Some people say we are like under the war. Viktor Frankl, a psychiatrist who experienced Auschwitz concentration camp wrote in his book, ” Man’s Search for Meaning”, there surely existed ,very few though, persons who showed kindness and gentleness in spite of the extreme situation. It was nothing but the spirit of freedom. We are going through very difficult time, but it it truly important to take care one another, connect with your precious ones, embrace bright humor, and overcome this hardship with joyous laughter!
私達は今、戦時中のようだとも形容されるコロナ禍の中にあるが、第二次世界大戦中に、アウシュビッツの強制労働所を体験した精神科医のフランクルは、極限的な状況にあってもなお、他者のことを気遣い優しさを示せる精神の自由を手にしていた人が、数は少ないながらも確かに存在したのだ、と「夜と霧」の中で書いている。こんな時代だからこそ、本当に大切な人と結びついて、お互いに気遣いあって、明るい楽しい冗談やユーモアを抱きしめて、それぞれ優しさを持ち寄り、元気にこの難局を乗り越えて行きましょう！
