Ho Chi Minh sightseeing is going on. Avoiding floods of motorbikes, we strolled under the muggy sky. Drank 8 bottles of water a day. Water is the life of water. If you keep hydrated, you can walk along. Herds of motorbikes are coming close without slowing down, and horns are honking everywhere. Though, hoking numerously to let drivers know seemed to be an act of kindness. Somehow it makes sense in Vietnam.
ホーチミン観光は続く。バイクの洪水の合間を縫って、蒸し暑い日差しの下をテクテク歩く。ペットボトルを1日に8本ほど飲み干す。水は命の水だ、とりあえず水を体に入れておけばなんとか歩ける。原付バイクの大群は、車よりも早いスピードで猛烈な勢いで突っ込んでくるし、クラクションはプハプハ至る所で鳴り響いている。クラクションをこまめに鳴らして、注意喚起した方がむしろベトナムでは親切な感じだ。
However, the number of accidents seemed sparse. Vietnam has timing of Vietnam, people seem to be familiarized with the savvy miraculous timing, and they have their own order. People are having everyday life following the rule. It was like a miracle of human body. Apparently seemed intensely complicated, yet conquered under the basic principle, and magically detecting and avoiding malfunction, then blood circulation going on and on to sustain life.
けれど、不思議と接触事故は少ないようで、ベトナムにはベトナムの間合いがあって、その阿吽の呼吸をベトナム人達は心得ている。ここには独自の秩序があり、人々がその秩序に則って暮らしを続けている模様だ。まるで人体の仕組みの不思議みたいだ。複雑怪奇ながらも一定の法則に支配され、奇跡的に不具合を回避しながら滔々と血脈は流れて命は続いてゆく。
Breakfast was at patio, it was enchantingly lovely. Hotel Continental Saigon has the oldest history in Vietnam. It is colonial style hotel designed by a French architect opened in 1880. One room for two persons with breakfast, for 2 nights in total was 34,680 yen. If calculating for per person with breakfast for a night, it is 8,670 yen each. If it is not fantastic, what will it be?
ホテルの朝食は中庭のパティオで。それはそれは素敵だった。ホテル・コンチネンタル・サイゴンはベトナムで最も古い歴史がある、フランス人建築家が設計した、1880年から続くコロニアルスタイルのホテルだ。一部屋二人で朝食付き、手数料込みで二泊34,680円だった。一人一泊朝食付きで計算すると、8,670円だ。これを素晴らしいと言わずして、何を素晴らしいと言うのだろう。
Vietnamese resonates feminine and tender. And people always having lovely smile. But swindling is hiding in the mild and gentle tones. You must be careful. Due to political regulation and complicated history, people come to hide the aggressiveness inside meticulously, and pursue wealth and profit nimbly. This is just hypothesis, but seeing is believing. You’ll never know what the world is really like if you don’t actually witness and experience it.
ベトナム語はたおやかに優しく響く。そして人々は穏やかな微笑みを浮かべている。しかし、ぼったくりも優しく柔らかい口調の中に潜んでいるので、気が抜けない。政治的な縛りがあり、複雑な歴史があり、攻撃性は隠して内にくるみつつ、実利を目敏く追求するという国民性が出来上がったのかもしれない。百聞は一見にしかず。世界の実相は身を以て体感しないと分からないことばかりだ。
Central Post Office, walking distance from the hotel. At the entrance, white Aodai student girls and black uniformed boys were having photoshoots. For graduation album? The youthful energy was ripened and brimming.
ホテルから歩いて行ける中央郵便局へ。郵便局の外では、白いアオザイ姿の女子学生や黒い制服の男子学生が、写真撮影をしていた。卒業アルバムの撮影だろうか。青春がはち切れそうに色付いている。
Inside the post office, there was a portrait of Mr. Ho Chi Minh.
郵便局の中には、ホーチミン氏の肖像画がかけられていた。
They were selling jewelry to small accessaries. But silver bracelet was too pricy and the design was not my taste. But hand made small goodies were super cute and Kawaii, and it was fun to shop for.
お土産も宝飾品から雑貨小物に至まで各種売っていた。銀のブレスレットは高すぎるし、デザインも今ひとつ。けれど手作り雑貨は激安激カワで、色々とお土産を買うのが楽しかった。
Book Street next by the post office.
郵便局の脇にあるブックストリート。
I bought old Saigon map of 1923. The map is printed on old folk art paper, that is in the crisis of extinction. About 530 yen.
ここで1923年のオールド・サイゴンの地図を買ってきた。今や廃れそうになっている伝統技法で作られた紙に印刷されているそうだ。530円ほど。
In Vietnam people are sitting on the street here and there. Lots of mini stools were on the street. Wonder why people sit with others outside? There might be historical background. People gather up outside and talk over, and having unity and plan out something?
ベトナムでは、やたらと人が道端に座り込んでいる。風呂椅子のようなものが多く路上に並んでいた。どうして外に座るのだろう。もしかしたらここにも歴史的な背景があるのかもしれない。多くの人が道に集まって話し合いをして、何かの計画を立てて団結するのかも知れない。
This is Tan Dinh Catholic Church at twilight. Pink exterior is cute and Kawaii, popular Instagramable spot. And the floods of motorbikes are so scary everywhere.
こちらは、灯ともし頃のタンディン教会。カトリックの教会だ。ピンクが可愛くて、インスタ映えスポットとしても人気が高い。それにしても、バイクの洪水が相変わらず怖い。
In Ho Chi Minh I saw many men wearing uniform just sitting on the street lazily, on the other hand, ladies were very capable and hardworking. They are helpful when I asked something. The astonishingly Kawaii fabric goodies were created by the hands of ladies. Now is the age of women. I want to connect with good ladies and complete good deed. I was thinking and walking along in Ho Chi Minh.
ホーチミンでは、制服姿で日がな一日ずっと道に座り込んで働かない男達を多く目にした一方で、女達はキビキビとよく動き、笑顔を浮かべて対応してくれるカッコイイ女が多かった。ノックアウトされるくらいに愛らしい土産物の布製品も、女達のまめまめしい手仕事の産物だ。これからは女の時代だな。私もいい女達と結びついて、いい仕事を成し遂げて行きたいな、などと考えながらホーチミンを歩く。
Not only sightseeing, yet we also wanted to appreciate traditional art, and went to Golden Dragon Water Puppet Theatre. It was charged about 2,000 yen per person for 1 hour show. Pretty expensive in Vietnam. However, it was worth a journey. The water puppet show has history since 11th century, the cultural heritage of Vietnam. 6 people sit along the side and play musical instruments while singing and storytelling. With the music and lines, comical water puppets swim, jump, and dance in the water. Flags up for a festa, dragons dance, buffalos and child playing a flute, catching frogs, rice planting, duck farming and fox hunting, dance of fairies, and etc. It was mesmerizing and I was intrigued even though I didn’t understand a word.
観光するだけではなく、伝統芸能にも触れなておかなくてはと、ロンヴァン水上人形劇場へ。1時間ほどの演目に一人2000円弱と、ベトナムにしては結構値がはる。しかし、これは遠路はるばる訪れるに値する舞台だった。人形劇は11世紀からの歴史を持つベトナムの文化遺産だ。楽器演奏の方達六人が脇に座って弾き語りをする中、その音楽と台詞に合わせて、コミカルな人形達が水の上を自由自在に泳いで飛んで踊っていた。祭りの旗揚げ、竜の踊り、水牛と笛を吹く子供、カエル採り、田植え、アヒル農法と狐狩り、仙女の舞、などなど、言葉が分からなくとも身を乗り出すほどに珍かに惹きつけるものがある。
For the finale, 6 puppet masters soaked in the water came out from the back and made a greeting. Warmth of creation made by human hands and admirable work and sense of humor. The songs and melodies of the music, the tones and the atmosphere of the old squeaking theater. It was all so touching and lovely. My heart was filled with the lovingness.
最後に、舞台の後ろから水に半身浸かった六人の人形遣いの方達が出てきて、挨拶をされた。人の手が作り上げた温もりと健気さ、そしておかしみ。歌と演奏のメロディー、奏者の声の色とミシミシした床の情感ある劇場の温度。いじらしいほどに良いものを見せてもらえ、心がヒタヒタに満たされた。

Lastly, I want to share gifts for family and friends, and dress shirt and crochet bag for myself. Especially, the dress shirt I found in a boutique, and the clerk lady took me to a fabric store, crossing a busy street protecting us from the motor bikes and I talked with ladies who sewed it and I purchased. Made a sweet memory.
最後に、家族友人に贈ったお土産と、自分用のドレスシャツと編みバッグ。特にドレスシャツはブティックで見つけ、その店のお姉さんがバイクの大群から私達を身を挺して守ってくれて、作られた仕立て屋さんまで連れて行ってくれて、そこで縫製された方と話をして支払いをした、素敵な思い出の品になった。

Vietnam is overwhelmingly Kawaii. But of course that’s not everything. You must survive the dashing motor bikes and storms of swindling. However, rambutan milk tea, fried spring rolls, pho noodle, 4 kinds of cheese pasta, asparagus and scalp soup, chocolate eclair, almond milk coffee jelly, and freshly squeezed orange juice were mixed and mingled with Vietnamese and French culture, they ware almost like an ecstasy.
ベトナムは目もくらむほどに可愛い。けれど勿論それだけじゃあない。バイクの猛突進とぼったくりの嵐を掻い潜らなければならない。それでも、ランブータンミルクティや、揚げ春巻きや、フォーや、四種のチーズのパスタや、アスパラガスと帆立のスープや、チョコレートエクレアや、アーモンドミルクコーヒーゼリーや、生搾りオレンジジュースは、ベトナム文化とフランス文化が混じりあった、恍惚となるほどの美味だった。
I’m endeavoring to create and expand Japanography to the world and studying the mystery of Kawaii, and I haven’t found the answer yet. To search for the depth and secrets of Kawaii, I want to visit various places in Japan and the world, while pursuing the spirit of love and peace.
ジャパノグラフィー®️を世界に広めつつ、「可愛い」とは何かを研究する身として、まだまだ「可愛い」の答えは見つかりそうにない。その奥義を探しに愛と平和を追い求め、もっと日本中、そして世界中に出かけて行きたい。
