Hello. I often use Korean Airline when traveling abroad. I always look forward to speaking some simple Korean with flight attendants and shop clerks at Inchon Airport, as well as the time at the destination of the trip. “Where is the restroom?” or “Can I have 2 cafe latte, please?” or “Is this water?” or “Do you have red wine?” I speak such primary expressions in Korean. Even though they are elementary level, I feel so excited with the fact that I’m using a foreign language with people abroad.
みなさん、こんにちは。海外旅行の際に、大韓航空を利用することがよくあります。機内で乗務員の方達と韓国語で簡単なやり取りをすることと、仁川空港で韓国語を使って買い物をすることが、滞在先でのあれこれと同じ位いつも楽しみです。「お手洗いはどこですか？」「カフェラテを二つ下さい。」「これは水ですか？」「赤ワインはありますか？」というようなごく初歩的な表現でも、外国語を使って意思疎通がはかれると旅の高揚感はより一層高まります。
Learning Korean is my hobby and I just enjoy studying it in my spare time. Korean and Japanese belong to the same language group, Altai language family. By that reason the grammar and the word order are exactly the same, we can learn it smoothly just like playing a puzzle. It is true to Koreans who are studying Japanese, and vice versa. You can come across Koreans who speak impeccable Japanese in Japan or Korean, not only K-POP stars.
私の韓国語は全くの趣味で気が向いた時にするという気楽なものですが、韓国語は日本語と同じくアルタイ語族という利点もあり、語順も文法も同じなのでパズルをはめ込んでゆくみたいにスイスイと学べます。これは韓国人の日本語学習者にも当てはまることで、驚くほど日本語が上手な韓国人はK-POPのスター達だけではなく、日本でも韓国でもよくお目にかかります。
I have copies of Haruki Murakami’s essay both Japanese and Korean edition. I use the books for studying Korean. Taking photocopies of each book and making a notebook to practice reading in detail. The process is filled with so much joy, it is like an intellectual game for me. I guess people who love languages would understand what I say. I also bought German edition of this book when I traveled to Germany. But of course, it is way too difficult…
村上春樹のエッセイ「職業としての小説家」の日本語版と韓国語版を、細かく分けてノートに切り貼りしつつ精読してゆくと、知的刺激が楽しくてたまらず、とても勉強になります。語学好きの方には、この喜びがよく分かるのではないでしょうか。因みにドイツでもこの「職業としての小説家」のドイツ語版を買いましたが、そちらはやはり歯が立ちません。
Speaking of learning foreign languages, the most popular second language for Japanese is of course English. And probably at the moment the next most popular foreign language is Korean. It is passionately studied with enthusiasm. The soft power of K-POP and Korean dramas are extraordinary, and I once read an article that the number of people who are learning Korean is increasing in Asian countries.
日本で一番学習人口が多い外国語は勿論英語ですが、恐らくその次に現在熱心に学ばれている外国語は韓国語なのではないかと推察します。K-POPや韓流ドラマなどのソフトパワーの威力には途轍もないものがあるので、特にアジア圏では韓国語学習者の数も増えているという記事を読んだことがあります。
When I traveled to Heathrow England via Inchon airport, I became friends with a Korean lady who sat next to us. She talked to my husband if she could have the leftover gochujang black bean paste for bibimbap. She was a very nice bright lady and we enjoyed chatting along the way. We talked about fierce, war-like Korean entrance examination competitions and the very demanding long hours labor of Japanese school teachers. Not only social issues, we shared our job and what we are going to do in England. Basically we spoke in English, but here and there I commented in Korean. The joyous time went by so fast and we arrived at London in no time.
先日、仁川空港経由でイギリスのヒースローまで行ったときに、隣の席に座った韓国人女性と親しくなりました。夫が食べていたビビンバのコチジャンが余っているのをみて、もうかけないなら貰っていいですかと声を掛けられたのがきっかけです。とても気持ちのいい聡明な女性で、韓国の受験戦争の弊害や日本の教員達の長時間労働の問題など、社会問題を話し合ったり、お互いの仕事のことやイギリスでは何をするのかなど、基本は英語で所々に韓国語を挟み込みつつ話した時間はとても楽しくて、あっという間にロンドンに到着してしまいました。
I said I learn Korean by watching K-dramas, and we talked about a very popular show, “Secret Garden”. I said a famous line from the drama and she overlapped the line with me. And we chuckled one another. She said Korean youngsters are studying Japanese by watching Japanese anime. The fact that fun and interesting is stronger than anything.
私が韓国語を韓流ドラマを観て勉強していますと言うと、大人気ドラマ「シークレット・ガーデン」の話になり、そこに出てくる有名な台詞を言うと、彼女もその台詞をハモって来てとても愉快な笑いが弾けました。韓国の若者達は日本のアニメを観て日本語を勉強しているとのこと。やはり「面白くて楽しい」というのは何よりも強い武器になります。
Japanese Dragon Ball is strikingly popular all around the globe. The author of Dragon Ball, Akira Toriyama was prized with the art and cultural award from the French government recently. And last day, I found a manga comic book of Dragon Ball at a train station kiosk in Lille France. There exist large number of younger generations who are attracted to Japan through Japanese anime, and they study Japanese language with it. The popularity and their affection as well as devotion is overwhelming, and much more immense than Japanese people would imagine. I desire that this blog could reach out the younger generations and others who are interested in, or in love with Japanese culture and language. I pray that this blog be a bridge between Japan and countries abroad. And I’m always wondering and pondering what to write for the next article.
ドラゴン・ボールも広く世界中で驚くほどの人気を博しています。作者の鳥山明は、先ごろフランス政府より芸術文化勲章を授与されたということが話題になっていますが、フランスのリール駅の売店にもフランス語版の漫画本が普通に売られていました。日本のアニメを介して日本に魅せられ、そのアニメを通じて日本語を学んでいる若者達が、私たち日本人の想像を遥かに凌ぐほど存在しています。その若い世代をはじめ、多くの日本文化や日本語に興味を持つ人々に広くこのブログが読まれるようになり、日本と多くの国々とを結ぶ架け橋になれるようにとの願いを込めて書いています。そして、いつも次の記事は何を取り上げようかと、心楽しくあれこれ思案しているのです。
