The other day, I spent my day off for learning, attended morning studying group held by The Cabinet Office, and On Demand lectures by Courrier Japon. I was sharing my opinion and taking notes while listening to the lecturers, and reflecting upon the thoughts. The theme was all about ‘learning in AI era’.

先日、休みの1日を学びの日にした。何をしたのかと言うと、内閣府の朝活勉強会とクーリエ・ジャポンのオンデマンド講義に参加したのだ。自分の意見を言ったり、登壇者の言われていることをノートにまとめ、自分の意見と照らし合わせて考えたりしていた。共通議題は「AI 時代の学び」についてだ。

I’ve been saying NO to AI & Chat GPT. And Japanography that I’ve been creating for 10 years conduct the same policy of not using artificial intelligence. The reason why is that I’m thoroughly against the drugs of snatching and killing human’s joy of creativity and expressions and the growing pain that holds.

私は一貫してアンチ AI 、アンチ Chat GPT の立場を取っている。十年かけて作ってきたジャパノグラフィー®️でも、人工知能を使用しないことを掲げている。それは何故か？それは人が人として表現する楽しみと、その上達に伴う成長痛をAI や Chat GPT などの麻薬に奪われてしまうことに、信念を持って反対しているからだ。

I want to protect human’s holy sanctuary of expressions that is rooted in joy of living. And translating Japanese text into English is genuine intellectual pleasure, and I loathe to give up the supreme amazement. I also believe each word that one chooses and emits and writes is the core of the humanity.

表現という生きる喜びでもある人の心の聖域を守りたいのだ。日本語を英語へ翻訳することも、それは純粋な知の喜びで、この知的悦楽は絶対に手放したくはない。そして人の選び発し綴る言葉一つ一つこそが、その人間の本質だとも思っている。

Each one of us desire to express something, and each point of view and one and only unique perspective is sheerly fun to refine and polish up. The process of improving technique and sense of beauty requires good amount of time. It matures slowly, but when looking back, there you can see your path of growth. And the place and time you can savor the miracle of life should never be ruined by the drastic drug of artificial intelligence that gives false wisdom of instant satisfaction. Gradually it will degenerate functions of brain, and one day the person will lose the ability to think by oneself. I want to defend from the crisis.

何かを表現したい、自分の視点、一人一人それぞれ違う独自のものの見方、その世界観を表現するための技術や美的感覚を、自分自身で苦労しながら磨いてゆく喜び。ゆっくりだけれど、振り返った時に確かに見える成長の軌跡、この生きているという奇跡を味わうべき場所と時間に、麻薬という劇薬を持ち込んで、瞬間的満足というまやかしの英知に浸るうちに、いつの間にか脳のある機能が退化し、自分で考える力がなくなっていたという危機的状況を防衛したいのだ。

Circuit of brain is unable to flourish if there is no load of pressure. In the time of under construction, you feel suffering that you can’t get the result in no time. Nevertheless, the answer once you attain by yourself, you can apply to anything. This is the width of intelligence. And this is something you can reach out only by persevering and endeavoring for years and years.

脳の回路は負荷をかけないと開通されない。その突貫工事をしている時間は、すぐに結果が出ずに苦しいけれど、一度得た自分なりの解は、あらゆることに応用が効くようになる。これを知性の幅という。この知性の幅は、愚直な努力と気の遠くなるほどの時間をかけてしか獲得し得ないものだ。

Flash of ideas can come up to anyone in a flash. However, it’s inevitable to take at least a decade in order to sublimate and transform the ideas into genuinely one and only discovery. It’s the same you can become professional of the area after working for ten years.

パッとした思いつきは、誰にでもパッと思いつくことができるけれど、それを唯一無二のものへと昇華させるには、最低でも十年の努力が必要になると思っている。仕事は十年やって初めてプロになれるのと同じことだ。

Now that time of Generative AI is progressing into Creative AI. And rules to be someone essential is ‘human draws a new magic, and AI creates it, it is magic>logic, magic is superior to logic’ the lecturer was speaking. Though, such easy idea will be soon caught up by AI.

今や生成 AI から更に進み、創造 AI の時代にもうすでになろうとしているらしい。そんな時代に必要不可欠な存在になる法則とは、「人間が新しい魔法を思い描き、AI でそれを創り出す。magic > logic で、論理よりも魔法」であると登壇者の方が話していた。けれどそんな生ぬるい考えは、すぐに AI が追い抜くだろう。

In my opinion, the way to counter with AI is to find richness in inefficiency, cherish it and embrace it, and create something new from the inefficiency and complete making it taking decades. Each one of us story-tell each one of our story and sophisticate it into one form taking long time, making myriads of mistakes, and learn from the mistakes, and complete making each work.

AI に対抗する手立ては、非効率の中に豊かさを見つけ、それを慈しみ、その非効率の中から新しいモノと価値観を作り出し、それを何十年もかけて完成させることだと思う。一人一人が独自の物語を紡ぎ、それを一つの形へと年月をかけて磨き、たくさん失敗し、失敗から学び、独自の作品を完成させるというものだ。

The point is to put up with the ambiguity that you can’t get the answer soon. It is Negative Capability that an English poet John Keats wrote to his brothers in a letter in 1817. And never stop contemplating for decades.

ポイントは、すぐに答えが出ない曖昧さに耐えるということ。1817年に英国詩人のジョン・キーツが弟たちへの手紙に書いた、ネガティブ・ケイパビリティ耐性をつけるということだと思う。そして何十年も考え続けることをやめないことだ。

Lately, AI answer comes the top whenever having internet searching. I feel sense of incongruity each time I read. And I should never ignore the incongruity. There should be some other ideas and inspirations, yet I feel like I am forced to believe there are no other answers. The massive pressure from something invisible is obscure and eerie. And never swept away from this feeling is crucial to trust myself as a human being.

ここ最近、ネット検索の答えのトップに AI の回答が毎回上がって来るようになった。それを読む度に言い知れぬ違和感を感じる。そしてこの違和感に目を瞑ってはいけない。もっと違う答えがあり着想がある筈なのに、最適解はこれだけですよこの他にはありませんよ、と、大きなものから無言の圧力をかけられている気になってくる。そしてこの違和感に軽く流されないことが、自分の人間性に対する信頼にもなってくると思う。

‘Every one does the same, it’s the age, it can’t be helped, efficiency is the best, that’s the way it is.’ But this lukewarm easiness is very dangerous. Sweet lie is poisonous. ‘Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.’ This is a maxim that is proven by the history of mankind. Being a minority requires bravery. Even though, I myself believe it as intellectual bravery.

「みんながやってるから、時代だから、仕方ないし、効率が一番だし、そんなもんだよ」しかしこのイージーさが一番怖いのだ。甘い話には毒がある。「狭い門から入りなさい。滅びに至る門は大きく、その道は広いからです。そして、そこから入って行く者が多いのです」これは人類の歴史が証明してきた金言だ。少数派でいることは勇気がいるけれど、これは知的勇気と呼ばれるものだと、自分では思っている。
