Paid a visit to Felissimo Chocolate Museum along with my business trip to Kobe. The concept of ‘sweet’ and ‘kawaii’ are inseparable and the English word of ‘sweet’ connotes ‘cute’ within. Therefore, sweetness of chocolate is linking with adorable sensation. For anyone, memories of chocolate is paired with pleasing nostalgia, and chocolate embraces our life with something delightful. It is much like a coquettish gal who sprinkles magical spice to all of us.
神戸出張のついでに、フェリシモ・チョコレート・ミュージアムへ行ってきた。「甘い」と「可愛い」は分かち難く結びついた概念で、英語でスイートと言えば「甘く可愛い」という二つの意味を併せ持つし、チョコレートの甘さは愛くるしさに繋がるものがある。誰にとってもチョコレートの思い出は幸せな追憶と対になっていて、チョコレートとは私たちの人生の時間を素敵なものへと彩る、不思議な魔法を振りかける蠱惑的な女の子みたいな存在なのだ。
Currently, this museum is having an exhibition of chocolate packages and cans designed with a cat. Wrapped with sweet aroma of roasted chocolate in the venue, I savored a time trip flying to the chocolate world for a while.
現在このミュージアムでは、猫をあしらったチョコレートのパッケージやカンカンを中心とした展示が行われており、焚きしめたチョコレートの香りに包まれて、ほんのひとときのチョコレート世界へ飛ぶ時間旅行を楽しんで来た。
Cats are so kawaii. I used to believe that a dog person is easier to get along with. However, a cat person who is not friendly to all yet once opening heart, becoming so close and intimate having a bit capricious and sensitive heart is so kawaii. “No one but you, because I like you.” This type of cat girl is a sweet enchantress. So and so, such cat and chocolate are bundled with exquisiteness and that’s why they are harmonious.
猫というものは可愛い。今までは犬タイプの人の方が付き合いやすいと思っていたけれど、誰に対しても尻尾を振る訳ではなく、気まぐれで少し繊細で、けれど一旦心を開くと懐いて甘えてくれる、猫ちゃんタイプもとっても可愛いと思うようになってきた。「誰でもいい訳じゃないの、あなただから好きなのよ。」という姿勢を崩さない猫タイプの女子は魔性の存在で、なんだかとっても愛おしくなるのだ。そんな猫とチョコレートは、少し互いに特別感があるもので、相性がいいのかも知れない。
Also, it was fun to open 12 months boxes of chocolate confectionery one by one, created by an artist living in Kansai district. Handicrafts of much dedication is so kawaii. Not sophistication aiming for perfection, yet you can see the path of struggles with the whipped cream. Artworks relying on own aesthetics and hands’ sensitivity are reminding me a craft that I made in my childhood.
また、関西出身の造形作家が作られたチョコレート菓子の12ヶ月の箱を、一つずつ開けて行くのも楽しかった。いじらしい手作業が可愛い。一部の隙もない洗練ではなく、絞り出し作業に苦闘しながら、手先と己の美的感覚が作り出す作品は、子供の頃の工作の時間を思い出させる。
And miniatures of chocolate shops were so interesting and intriguing.
そして、チョコレートショップのミニチュアも非常に珍かで見応えがあった。
Chocolate shops in Europe are likely to be turned out to these miniatures. Meticulous and immaculate craftsmanship to the smallest detail is sparkling. Artists who can make a living by creating such works are so blessed. I was thinking so and enchanted by each one of the works.
ヨーロッパの街並みの中にあるチョコレート屋さんをそのままミニチュアにしたかのような、細部にまで至るきめの細やかさが光る。こんな仕事をしながら食べて行けるアーティストは幸せだな、などと思いながら、その小さな小さな造形物一つ一つに引き込まれる。
And this shelf designed with a chocolate bar is displaying chocolate packages from all over the world donated by the public. Each showcase is filled with amazement. It was a pity that I couldn’t look in the higher shelf. But it can’t be helped since the bar of chocolate design has such restrictions.
そしてこちらの板チョコモチーフの棚には、一般の方々から寄贈された世界中から集められたチョコレートのパッケージが並んでいる。どれも面白くて色んな発見がある。高いところのものが見れないのは残念だったけれど、板チョコタイプの棚を設置するならば、そうなってしまうのは仕方ないかも知れない。

そして日本が誇るカワイイ文化の伝道師、増田セバスチャンのカワイイチョコレートマジック。
Mr. Sebastian’s kawaii interpretation is too ominous and excessive and highly condensing, as if screaming out for kawaii hysterically. It is too much and hyper, makes me tiresome. However, it is still interesting and one of a kind, I must admit it. Probably it is the skillfulness, persuasiveness, and pride of the frontier.
セバスチャン氏の表現するカワイイは、どこかしら禍々しくて過剰で過密でヒステリックに叫びまくるようなカワイイ精神が横溢している気がして、詰め込みすぎでハイパー過ぎて、ちょっと疲れてしまう。それでもやっぱり面白いものは面白いと、こちらに認めさせるものがあるのは流石だ。それが第一人者としての技量と誇りなのかも知れない。
Pursuing for kawaii is one of the characteristics of this Japanography, hence it was sheerly valuable opportunity that I was able to come visit Kobe filled with classy and elegant foreign culture, and I stopped by this Chocolate Museum and I was basked in Kobe culture. And when creating Japanography, it is an important research activity to actually go visit various museums and learn from exhibitions categorized and demonstrated based on a certain methodology, and studying how to translate and represent a culture in a unique way. Kobe, you are a lovey city.
ジャパノグラフィー®️は「カワイイ」の追求を一つの方向性として持っているので、今回このお洒落な舶来文化が息づく港街神戸で、神戸らしい文化のチョコレートミュージアムを訪れて、ひとときそのカワイイ文化に浴する時間を持てたことは、価値あることだった。そしてまた、ジャパノグラフィー®️を作り上げる際に様々な美術館や博物館へ実際に赴き、そこで体系的に纏められた展示を見て、その文化の見せ方の一つの切り口を学ぶのは、大切な研究活動の一環でもある。神戸、素敵な街ですね。
