Established Japanography after years of anguish, and more than a month has passed since completed Master’s course. Did the thesis bookbinding and presented to those who concerned. And I’m jotting down ideas, designing roadmap of practicing Japanography. Now is the season of sparkling young leaves, so I put out chairs to the terrace and tackling on the work. Sincerely beautiful joy it is, looking up fresh greenery and working on the task.
苦労の末にジャパノグラフィーを確立させ、大学院を修了して一ヶ月以上が過ぎた。修士論文の製本をして、関係各位に出来上がった論文を御献本し終え、これからのジャパノグラフィーの実践に向けての設計図をノートに纏めたりしている。新緑が鮮やかな季節なので、窓辺に椅子を出して作業をしたりする。木漏れ日を見上げながら、ノートや書類と睨めっこしている時間は本当に美しい。
After making Japanography, I came to a conclusion teaching is a calling for me, considering issues from my viewpoint and sharing the thought. Made a big detour, and I reached out finally. And now I’m teaching English for students to pass a college level qualification. My goal from now is to promote Japanography lecturing in English and Japanese bilingual.
ジャパノグラフィーを作ってみて、私は詰まるところ自分の視点から考察を導き出し、その考察を人に教える先生業が天職だったのだという気付きがあった。ぐるっと一周大廻りをして、その結論へたどり着いた訳だ。そう言うわけで、現在は英検準一級受験の指導をする先生をしている。これからの目標は、ジャパノグラフィーを英語と日本語で教え講義する先生になることだ。
I’m a people person, so the job of helping people to grow is my cup of tea. There’s a distinct moment of a student’s eyes change with an unheard click, once the switch is on every one of their English grade improves like a magic, and the joy of learning energy starts to emit from them. I just tell them that the world through an English window is filled with discovery and surprise in such depth and colors.
人が好きなので、人の育ちを助ける仕事はいいものだとつくづく思う。生徒さんの目が変わる瞬間があり、カチリと学びスイッチが入ったら、どの生徒さんも面白い様に英語の成績が伸びて、学ぶ喜びという熱量がその体から放出される様になる。私はただ、英語という窓を通して見た世界は、こんなに奥深く色彩豊かで、乙なる発見と驚きに満ちているということを伝えるだけだ。
Truly, every one of us is seeking for joy of learning. And once reaching there it springs from inner self, then becomes genuine. Later on, the joy transforms into one’s originality.
学ぶと言う喜びを実は誰しも求めていて、それが内からフツフツと湧き上がって来たときに初めて本物になり、やがてそれはその人自身の独自性になって行く。
Top picture shows a part of literature that I analyzed into when creating Japanography. My speciality is Japanese Culture Dissemination, and I made a theory connecting Japanese culture that Meiji Era (1868-1912) intellects spread the world, and viewpoints form overseas, and a lifestyle of Japanese commoner. I proposed the arrival of new era that IT enabled each grass-root individual to write Japanese culture in English and Japanese bilingual, a century after the Meiji elites’ mission.
上の写真は、ジャパノグラフィーを作るに当たって読み込み分析した文献の一部。日本文化発信が専門なので、明治の知識人達が世界に伝えた日本像と、海外からの日本への視点を結び、普通の暮らしを営む一個人の視点に着地させて、一つの論を作った。明治のエリート発信時代からおよそ一世紀を経て、ITが可能にした、世界中の草の根の個人が日本文化をバイリンガルで綴る時代の到来を述べた。
I’ll spend some years spreading Japanography, and after that I’m plotting to challenge Doctor’s course to compose Japanography into unyielding academic genre. Gathering up endless elements of hints, assembling and putting together with original methods, coloring, organizing, and sewing up. When feeling dissatisfied, dissemble them and try out again. And I’m designing Japanography.
これから数年かけてジャパノグラフィーを広める活動をして行き、その後、博士課程に進んで、ジャパノグラフィーをより確固たる一つの学問体系にして行きたいと思っている。日常に広がっている果てしない気づきのヒントを集めて、自分なりに組み立て、色を塗って、並べ替えたり、縫い合わせたりして、気にいらない時は一回バラバラにして組み立て直したりして、ジャパノグラフィーを作ってきた。
Each one of us has anguish and agony of marble unable to speak up. However, I’m so blessed to have sense of playfulness to carry on the studies while maximizing design thinking, and I have a mission to complete taking whole life. It is the best to keep on studying while cherishing playful spirit and being serious on the flip side.
言葉には出来ない斑の様に浸食し合う苦しみというものは、人は誰しも持っていて、それでもデザイン思考を最大限に働かせながら、遊ぶ様な感覚で研究を続け、人生を賭けて完成させたいものがあるというのは本当に幸せだ。学びというものは、遊びながら面白がりながら、至極真面目にするに限ると言うのが持論である。
